Blackwater Woodturners is a woodturning workshop and gallery, situated at picturesque Blackwater Bridge, on the Ring of Kerry.
Visitors are welcome to come into the workshop to learn the processes of turning a log of wood to a finished piece . A demonstration of woodturning is also possible depending on what is on the lathe at the time.
Much of the wood used is sourced locally here at Blackwater Bridge from storm felled trees or prunings from the garden.
We use Ash, Holly, Hazel, Oak, Chestnut and Elm.
Other pieces are turned from exotic timbers, such as New Zealand Black Maire and Rimu, Burmese Teak, Mahogany or Ebony.
In the studio/gallery some of the Ash woodturnings are hand-coloured following the intricate grain patterns of the wood to produce beautiful one-off pieces.
Handcrafted platters, bowls, sculptural pieces, trinket boxes and Christmas tree ornaments are ideal as souvenirs to take home or as gifts for family and friends and for wedding, birthday, anniversary or Christmas presents.
